Chevy trucks continue to dominate the pickup truck market. Whether you choose the Colorado or the Silverado 1500, you’ll get a truck that’s off-road capable, excellent for job site duties, and comes with the reliability you would expect from Chevrolet. Check out the similarities and differences between the 2020 Colorado and Silverado 1500 so you can decide which model is best for your budget and lifestyle.
Exterior Styling
Size consideration can help you decide between the Colorado and Silverado. When you want a midsize pickup truck that offers maneuverability with plenty of cargo and bed space, the Colorado works well with its wheelbase of 128.3 inches. If you want more of a full-size workhorse truck with a wheelbase of 147.43 inches and plenty of power and towing capacity, the full-size Silverado makes a good choice. The Colorado offers five trim levels and the Silverado eight trims.
Engines and Performance
Three engine choices power the Colorado, from the 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine to the 2.8-liter to the Duramax 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. An eight-speed automatic transmission pairs with all of the Colorado’s engines, and you can get the truck in rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Choose from five engines and three transmission options for the Silverado.
Depending on the trim, you go from a 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6 engine to a 6.2-liter V-8, with an optional 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 Duramax diesel engine. A six-speed, eight-speed, or 10-speed automatic transmission pairs with select engines. The Silverado comes with rear-wheel, all-wheel, or four-wheel drive. When properly equipped, the Colorado can tow up to 7,700 pounds and the Silverado up to 13,400 pounds.
Interior Space and Technology
Depending on the trim and the cab and bed configuration, the Colorado can seat up to five people and the Silverado up to six. Both trucks come with cloth seats on the lower trims to leather upholstery on the upper ones. Available luxury touches include dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable seats, and a heated steering wheel.
Chevrolet’s infotainment system powers both the Colorado and the Silverado. The Colorado gets a 7-inch touch screen or an available 8-inch version, and the Silverado features an 8-inch touch screen on the upper trims. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and one USB port come standard for both models. Available features for both include a Wi-Fi hot spot, SiriusXM satellite radio, voice-activated navigation, and a premium Bose speaker system. You can also get an optional power up-and-down tailgate on the Silverado.
Safety Features
Chevrolet prides itself on safety, and both the Colorado and Silverado come with a host of driver-assist features. Multiple air bags and stability traction control come standard on the Colorado and Silverado. You can also opt for available driver-assist features like a forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The Silverado offers available safety towing features like the advanced trailering system, trailer sway control, hill start assist, and automatic grade braking.
